When the former train yard in Trinidad, Colorado, was acquired from the railroad, it was a brownfield site, dotted with deteriorating structures. Since that time, this 15-acre site, now known La Puerta de Colorado (meaning “the gate”), has undergone remarkable transformation. It now proudly hosts a 96-key Hilton Garden Inn hotel, a maintenance facility, a standalone restaurant, a water feature park, and communal access bridges. Future improvements include additional restaurant spaces, a coffee shop, and a serene recreation area complete with walking trails and pickleball courts. This development also offers access to recreational amenities along the Purgatoire River. This development is the culmination of collaborative efforts between the Owner, Kip Hampden, the City of Trinidad, FEMA, Trinidad Development Group, Bruce Barr Architect, and Sun Mountain Design Group.
